The York Region Conservatory of Music offers a specially tailored, well balanced introductory program for the beginner which includes the study of introductory repertoire, the study of theory (notation, rhythmic values, etc…), ear training & sight reading. Instructors for this program are carefully selected teachers that specialize in junior instruction. Teachers have either just completed their BA or ARCT in music or are in the process of. Please keep in mind that there is no intervention from Ms. Gilbert in regards to teaching, planning, etc…in this program.

A second introductory program which is an outstanding program for youngsters is the piano/voice program. It has become extremely popular & very high in demand. This program introduces a young child not only to the keyboard but also trains their voice. Piano & voice are complimenting disciplines & therefore, develop the child’s musicality & ear rapidly. We have been very fortunate to have introductory teachers that specialize in both disciplines. This program benefits the child & also the parent (since the fee is identical to taking merely one subject).

For the Intermediate Student (all disciplines):

The York Region Conservatory of Music offers music lessons in all disciplines for intermediate students. Some students merely wish to enhance their musical skills while others wish to pursue the Royal Conservatory of Music Examination System, participate in local & national festivals, etc… Instructors for this program are carefully selected teachers that specialize in intermediate instruction. Teachers in this category hold an ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music &/OR a BA from a reputable University/Music Institution. Teachers demonstrate high professionalism, are successful in preparing students with Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations & have also had positive results from Festivals/Competitions. They have proven themselves through their extensive education, expertise & success in student results. Please keep in mind that there is no intervention from Ms. Gilbert in regards to teaching, planning, etc… in this program.

Supervisory Training (all disciplines):

This program is a special program designed for those students desiring to study with Ms. Gilbert but cannot for one reason or another. It is a great program for those students that are goal oriented. It also assures parents of rapid progress & ensures successful RCM examination results. Regular weekly study will be with a YRCM instructor selected by Ms. Gilbert. The program includes the following:

a) the student’s academic program will be designed by Ms. Gilbert
b) examinations, competitions, etc…will be planned & scheduled by Ms. Gilbert
c) two assessments to be conducted by Ms. Gilbert (scheduled 3 months apart)
d) written reports from each assessment attended
e) one masterclass
f) one “trial/mock” examination conducted by Ms. Gilbert
g) one weekly half hour lesson with the recommended YRCM instructor

First Class Training (withVictoria Gilbert):
Ms. Gilbert will only take on a student who clearly shows a desire for their chosen discipline of either piano or voice. Her teaching method is a very advanced one. Her students move exceptionally quickly, achieving outstanding results in examinations, competitions/festivals & auditions. Some students have even moved onwards, with her direction, into successful musical careers as recording artists & solo concert performers.

First Class Adult Programs (with Victoria Gilbert):

There are two programs which are specifically tailored for the busy adult just returning to study music, one who wants to begin learning for recreation, etc… Adults can choose from either one of these more flexible programs below:

a) the bi-monthly program (which involves a regular schedule of two lessons per month)…usually every other week.
b) The “drop-in” program is one class per month where the student is responsible to call one week in advance to schedule his/her lesson time.
